“COACH CARP”
I’m Michael Carpenter (“Coach Carp”), a husband, father, son, and coach, born and raised in the Fredericksburg area. I’m married to my beautiful wife Shammi, and we have four children: Ky’Mani, Azai, Monroe, and Akeem.
I played football from the age of 5 until I graduated from Chancellor High School but my love for the game is deeper than between the lines. Learning life lessons through the game, I realized my part in the game of football wasn’t to play at the next level but to help mold and guide young men to become more than just athletes by teaching more than just what happens on the field. My father saw I had a passion for more of the X’s and O’s and motivating athletes to become more than what they think of themselves on the surface. He welcomed me into the coaching circle at the young age of 18, learning from great coaches in the area who brought National Championships back home.
As my love for the youth and this game grew, I partnered with two friends of mine and started our own AYF travel organization, Virginia Jags. We were highly competitive, playing teams from all over the USA. What I’m most proud of is the community services we were able to accomplish, including feeding the homeless, food drives at the start of the pandemic, helping at the children’s hospital, and cancer awareness games.
I knew my time coaching in the youth world was coming to an end when my core group of 15 athletes — some of which I had since the age of 6 — moved on to their respected high schools and instantly saw success at the varsity level.
I’m extremely excited to be at this level with a great staff and group of guys! Now it’s time to work!
